Have you ever wondered about that old rush seat you've been hanging on to, hoping you
can either find someone to repair it for you, or fix it yourself? Then worry no more because here at Willowcraft Renovations we believe in spreading the knowledge we have gained over the years in the hopes that traditional crafts are kept alive.
Rushes have been used for thousands of years as a material for bottoming seats. Examples
have been found in Egyptian Tombs, and I am sure they were not the first to exploit such a natural resource.
English and Dutch rushes, both freshwater and salt-water have been used for centuries due to their local availability and their practical use.

It was said you could detect a 'rush matter' from quite some distance due to the distinct aroma emanating from both craftsman and rushes. Happily, thanks to modern harvesting and efficient washing systems (for the craftsmen and the rushes) this is no longer a problem. My wife and I are eternally grateful!
Course Title: Rush Seating
Aims of Course: To learn aspects of an environmentally friendly craft which uses a natural, sustainable resource and encourages furniture recycling as a challenge to our 'throw away' society. You will have the opportunity to either repair a piece of your own furniture, or purchase and seat a footstool from us. (We do require some notice regarding the footstool.) No previous skill is required as full instruction is supplied by us.
Duration: This is a two-day course running from 10.00am - 4.00pm each day.
Price: £90.00/course excluding stool, but including rushes.
Refreshments: Dependant on which venue is available. We will let you know the arrangements closer to the start date.
